Irini Bachlitzanaki was born in Athens, Greece in 1984. She studied History of Art at UCL and Fine Art at Central Saint Martins and Chelsea College of Arts. In addition to her work as an artist, she also works as a curator.
In her practice Bachlitzanaki focuses primarily on the different ways in which objects carry and produce meaning and the changes in meaning, status and social significance as they transition from one context to another. Employing materials and techniques often referencing design or drawn from craft and artisanal traditions her recent works play on the idea of recognisability drawing on a range of different associations as hierarchies between different disciplines become ambiguous.
