Photographer. Originally a bookseller, Robinson opened a photographic studio in 1857 which specialised in portraits. He became famous for his photographs of genre subjects which were often achieved by combining many photographs to form one image and using models, often family members, posed in costume. A founding member of ‘The Linked Ring’ and advocate for ‘Pictorialism’ Robinson was the author of Pictorial Effect in Photography, Being hints on Composition and Chiaroscuro for Photographers.
