Army officer, politician. Governor-General of India 1812-1823. From 1762 known as Lord Rawdon; in 1783 became baron Rawdon of Rawdon in the British peerage; in 1790 by royal licence added Hastings to his surname; in 1793 succeeded his father as Earl of Moira; in 1808 Baron Hastings; in 1817 Marquess of Hastings.
