Wood and metal engraver; pupil of Isaac Nicholson in Newcastle; moved to London and worked under fellow pupil Ebenezer Landells, after which he trained George Dalziel (q.v.). Later engraved with Ebenezer Landells as ‘Landells & Gray.’ Saur gives his date of death as 1845, whereas earlier authorities give it as 1847. [Soure: British Museum website].
