Bradley Grievson (b.1986 Milton Keynes, England) previously studied at Chelsea College of Art between 2005-08. Grievson works on the cusp of painting, drawing and collage. Small images of a sunbather’s back and a muddy river are torn into parts before being blown up into large floor based collages, whilst pen drawings are enlarged into abstract paintings.

The works describe shifts in scales of gesture, from the modest and the intimate to the bold and the violent. In the floor works, careful tears into a small image become large digitally reproduced rips, while quick marker pen drawings are resized on a photocopier and collaged in pieces onto the surfaces of Jesmonite panels. This particular syntax of transformed gestures seeks to consider imagemaking, abstraction and surface in relation.
