Alana Dix Francis previously studied at The University of Reading (BA Hons).
The fictioning of memory, the balance between recollection and invention – this slippage between the real and the imagined informs Francis’s writing. Through spoken word she draws others into the circle of her lived experience and conjured scenarios; playing with the anecdotal nature of storytelling, whilst also recognising the impossibility of an identically shared encounter.
The content of Francis’s performances is altered by her memory and imagination, and goes through a further filter of recollection, as the audience attempts to hold onto their memory of the texts. The specificity of the language fades almost immediately, but is reshaped in its retelling.
