Summary Note
This book had first been published in 1607 (some copies of which have coloured plates). In 1608 the same printer and bookseller also brought out a French translation.
On the title-plate the publication-date is followed by the dedication, 'Excellentissimis, Potentissimisque Fœderati Belgii Ordinibus, summis republicæ moderatoribus, eorundemque prudentissimo Status Consilio noblissimis amplissimisque viris belli artes ipsorum sub imperiis feliciter exercitas hoc dono representabat Iacobus Geinius.'
The work is a practical handbook, to assist officers in drilling soldiers in the use of guns and pike-staffs.
The first two sets of plates show the use of guns; the third, the use of the staff or pike.
Provenance
Purchased for RA Library in 1869 (see 'Report on the Library for the Year 1869', RA Annual Report, Appendix No. 6, p. 27).
