Responsibility Note
The portrait of Francia is signed as engraved by 'AM'; that of Guido Reni, as drawn by A. Bentivoglio and lithographed by Angiolini; that of Guercino, as drawn by J.A. Calvi and engraved by F. Rosaspina; that of Malvasia, as drawn by A. Frulli and lithographed by Angiolini.
Summary Note
The publication-dates of 1842 and 1843 are given on the two title-pages. But other title-pages occurring in the work carry the publication-dates of 1838 and 1841.
This work gives accounts of painters, sculptors, architects and engravers who worked, or originated, in Bologna between the 11th and the 18th century. It was issued as a sequel and revision of C.C. Malvasia's Felsina Pittrice.
The plate in the first volume shows a portrait of F. Francia. The three in the second volume show portraits of Guido Reni, Guercino and Malvasia.
Provenance
The front pastedowns carry an armorial bookplate with the mottoes 'Libertas' and 'Sollicitae Jucunda Oblivia Vitae'. The front loose endpapers are inscribed in ink, 'Cte L. Clement de Prig [?] - 1863 14"50 Vente de Chevalier B. No 600' - and that of the second volume has also a 9-line note in Italian. The first volume has inserted one leaf, and the second two leaves, carrying presentation inscriptions from the author to 'Conte Camillo Grassi'.
Binding Note
19th-century white vellum; gilt-decorated spines, red and black morocco spine-labels lettered 'Amorini Vite Dei Pittori Ed Artisti Parte I-II, III (IV-V.)'.
