Summary Note
The added engraved title-page reads, 'Venetia Cittá Nobilissma. E Singolare Descritta Dal Sansovino Con Nove E Copiose Aggiunte Di D. Giustinian Martinioni.' It incorporates an aerial view of Venice and two views of the Piazza di San Marco.
The text draws on Stringa's edition (1604) of Sansovino's text, which had first been published in 1581 (itself drawing on his two earlier guidebooks (1556, 1561)).
The fourteen books cover the following topics: 1-6. the regions of Venice; 7. seminaries and confraternities; 8. public buildings; 9. houses; 10. dress and customs; 11-13. doges and other celebrities; 14. chronology.

A reprint with analytic index by L. Moretti was published in 1998 (Venezia: Filippi). A facsimile with intro. by J.M. Fletcher was published in 1968 (Farnborough: Gregg).
Provenance
The verso of the front loose endpaper is inscribed in pencil, 'S.A.H.', i.e. S.A. Hart, librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81.
