$a There is no first edition of this title as this is a re-edited and very much expanded version of the author's Miscellaneous observations on the Continent (1825), which contained only the voyage through France and Switzerland. This work, Travels on the Continent, Sicily, and the Lipari Islands, includes the Italian part of his journey which makes up most of both the text and the illustrations. The work is dedicated to his companion on the journey, Henry Howard of Greystoke, Esq. The illustrations are largely from drawings by the author, the engravings were produced by Finden and the woodcuts by A. J. Mason. The work contains a list of the 'Engravings' (p. vii-viii) and 'Description of the wood-cuts' (p. ix-x), as well as an index (p. 477-494).
