520 2 # $a "The “Royal Academy Bijou” is published to meet the demand for a cheap and portable book to be kept as a memento of the Exhibition. It does not attempt the completeness of Academy Notes, but will be found very convenient for the pocket, also for artists and others to send to their friends; containing as it does, fac-similes of sketches of some pictures by `outsiders’ which a book published on the opening day of the Royal Academy could not possibly include. The large and increasing demand for sketches of pictures is another reason for publishing the “Royal Academy Bijou” which makes its appearance this year for the first time. It is the second book of its kind issued as a supplement to “Academy Notes” (the fist, entitled “Academy Sketches,” having been published for the last eight years by Messrs. Allen & Co., of Waterloo Place, London), and it will be continued annually in May. It is gratifying to note that the system of drawing in line is reviving in England, and that sketches by the artists, equal to those in the Paris Salon catalogue, have been produced in larger numbers this years.* The revival is important, apart from all illustrated catalogues, as the taste for sketches reproduced by the new processes, is opening up a vast field of industry for the younger generation in England. 123, Victoria Street, Westminster., May, 15, 1891.” [Pages 3+4]

" *The excellently illustrated catalogues of the Paris Salon (started in imitation of ACADEMY NOTES, in 1879) are sold in England by Messrs. Chatto & Windus, 214, Piccadilly, London)." [Page 4]
