$a Turner's Liber Studiorum, a series of landscape and seascape compositions published as prints in etching and mezzotint, was published between 1807 and 1819 in fourteen parts with a frontispiece. Only 70 prints and the frontispiece [here numbered as plate I] - of the planned 100 prints - were published. This is a two volume facsimile reproduction with critical notes by Stopford Brooke. The printer statement appears on the verso of the title-page: London: Printed by Wertheimer, Lea and Co., Circus Place, London Wall. Vol. I: [8], 76 p., 36 leaves of plates ; Vol. II: [2], 84, [8] p, 35 leaves of plates. In the Appendix at the end of Vol. II Brooke writes of his indebtedness to the writings of Ruskin and therein reprints what Ruskin wrote on Turner's Liber Studiorum and what he had written on particular prints which appeared in the work. |
