General Note

The portrait is an engraved illustration of Spenser in Vol. I at the head of p. [v]. The engravings of the plates are signed "Lud du Guernier inv: et sculp.". Vol. I opens with a reprinting of the original dedication by Spenser to Queen Elizabeth I. Vol. I includes Books 1-III; Vol. II includes books IV-VII.

Provenance

The first loose endpaper in Vol I. has a signature in black ink, 'Charles A. Moysey / Ch: Ch: / 1804'. The signature, except for the date, is repeated on the same sheet of Vol. II.

Binding Note

Bound in brown leather; the spine has a red leather label lettered in gilt, 'Spenser's / Fairy / Queen' and on the brown leather below 'I [II]'.
