General Note
This is the first of two pamphlets prepared for the exhibition of Ward's painting in the Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly, London. At the end of this pamphlet, on p. 11, it states: 'For a fuller Description of this Alegory, containing moral Reflections, and an etched Outline with References, vide Pamphlet, to be had in the Room.' The title of that accompanying pamphlet is An explanatory description of the Battle of Waterloo, in an allegory, painted for the directors of the British Institution, founded June, 4, 1805, for the express purpose of encouraging the fine arts now exhibiting at the Egyptian Hall, Piccadilly; with moral reflections, by James Ward, Esq. R.A. (see Sir John Soane's Museum Library, ref. no. 1523).
