The Art Treasures Examiner was an illustrated weekly periodical published over the life of the Art Treasures of Great Britain exhibition held in Manchester in 1857, which, in October 1857, was published as one bound volume, to serve as a comprehensive record of the exhibition's displays. The work includes reproductions and critical appreciation of many of the works on show. The two frontispiece plates are chromolithographs of the exhibition pavilion and its interior.
Provenance
The front endpaper has two owners' inscriptions: firstly, 'William Lofthouse', a signature in ink in the upper centre of the front endpaper; and, secondly, 'Dorothy Bowman / 12 Clifton Avenue / Fallowfield / Manchester / M14 6UB', written in blue biro in the top right corner.
