Summary Note
The text describes the casa Valori - afterwards the Palazzo Altoviti - in Florence. In the late 16th century Baccio Valori had the façade of the building decorated with fifteen marble herms ('Termini') of famous Florentines, including Ficino, Vespucci, L.B. Alberti, Guicciardini, Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio. These acquired the nickname, 'Visacci' or 'ugly faces'. Some of them have been attributed to the sculptor-architect Giovanni Battista Caccini (1556-1613).
The book is ornamented with title-page vignette, head- and tail-pieces and decorated initials.
