520 2 # $a The plates are captioned within the plate and are described briefly in the List Of Drawings. They show exterior and interior views of churches and public buildings in Hohensalzburg, Bruges, Heidelberg, Munich, Antwerp, Louvain, Courtrai, Tongres, Inspruck, Brussels, Salzburg, Dixmude, Liège, Nuremberg, Leau, Cologne, Treves, Ratisbon and Oudenarde, in late-Gothic or Northern Renaissance styles. They are peopled with figures dressed in 17th-century costume. This was the first collection of Haghe's sketches in Belgium and Germany (two later collections would be published in 1845 and 1850).

The work was bound using india-rubber or caoutchouc in a process invented by George Hancock; which has become brittle with time.
