Responsibility Note

In Volume I the frontispiece is signed as made by Rastaini. Most plates are unsigned, but a few are signed as engraved by F. R[astaini], Silvestrini, Benede. Mori or Aless. Muchetti. In Volume II no plate is signed, apart from pl. 44, which is signed as made by Piranesi. Several plates in both volumes appear to have had signatures erased.

Summary Note

In Volume I the frontispiece shows 'Roma Antica Baso. rilievo nella Villa Albani'; the folding map is a 'Pianta Dimostrativa Di Roma Antica'. Most plates in both volumes show plans, elevations, sections and views of ancient Roman buildings (often with scale-bars); some in Volume II show ancient statues and bas-reliefs.

The first edition had been published in 1795 at Bologna, under the title, Roma antica.
