Summary Note
The work describes the frescoes which Correggio painted ca. 1520 for the ceiling of the mother superior's dining-room in the convent of St. Paul, Parma, probably after a visit to Rome and contact with Raphael and his circle. Over the fireplace he painted the figure of Diana the huntress, goddess of chastity; and in the umbrella-vault an arbour with sixteen ovals, many showing putti, above sixteen grisaille lunettes based on ancient Roman coins and a frieze of rams' heads.
