Summary Note
The work describes the ruined frescoes of a Passion cycle painted in the chapter house of San Francesco at Pisa. Plate 12 shows a fragment carrying the inscription, 'Niccholaus Petri ... Pinsit Anno MCCCLXXXXII ...'. This painter is described by Rossi and Lasinio as a follower of Giotto, but is generally considered to owe more to Orcagna and to Taddeo Gaddi.
The plates show Christ's Last Supper (pl. 10), Passion and Crucifixion (11, 8, 7, 6, 5), Burial (9, 4) and Resurrection (3), the Descent of the Holy Spirit (1) and the Assumption of the Virgin (2); sculptures of S. John the Baptist and S. Laurence (12); figures of bishops and sovereigns from the frieze (13, 14).
