$a His books of trophies mark J.-C. Delafosse as one of the originators of the neo-classical, architectonic style associated with the period of Louis XVI. Each livre shows motifs of a particular kind (specified on the title-plate and in the captions): 1. d'Eglise; 2. de Guerre; 3. Militaires; 4. Pastorals; 5. de Chasse et de Pêche; 6. d'Amour et de Musique. These livres were subseqently republished in the third part of Nouvelle Iconographie Historique (Paris, 1768; second edition 1771) - where they are lettered and numbered NN1-5, OO1-5, PP1-5, QQ1-5, RR1-5, SS1-5 and are joined by a 'Septième Livre De Trophées Contenant divers attributs des Saisons, Des Sciences et des Vertus' lettered and numbered TT1-5. |
