Portraits of illustrious personages of the court of Henry VIII : reproduced in imitation of the original drawings of Hans Holbein in the collection of Her Majesty [His Majesty] / with a short historical introduction by Richard R. Holmes F.S.A.
The first volume is the first series of reproductions of portrait drawings by Holbein in the Royal Collection selected by Richard R. Holmes, Royal Librarian and Keeper of Prints and Drawings at Windsor Castle. Both series were published by Franz Hanfstaengl, with the reproductions printed in Munich. The first volume has a two-page introduction to the drawings followed by an index listing the 54 plates of reproduction drawings. The second volume, published during the reign of King Edward VII, hence 'His Majesty' on its title-page, comprises a brief note by the author followed by two pages listing and identifying the 28 plates. The final plate is different from all the previous in that it reproduces 4 portrait miniatures.
Binding Note
Both volumes have vellum spine and corners with gilt title (Holbein - Windsor) and decoration to the front board. There is no spine lettering.
