General Note
Orlando (the marmalade cat) is the subject of the series (of the same name) of 19 illustrated children's books written by Kathleen Hale between 1938 and 1972. In this tale, the first in the series, London-born Orlando, with his master, is on his way to a relaxing seaside vacation when he accidentally ends up on the wrong ship and heads for France where his adventures begin.
