Notes [in verse] on so much of the catalogue of the present exhibition of the Royal Academy as relates to the works of the members : with a report of the private view and the dinner
Copies 1 and 2: The title-page inscribed in ink: 'To the Library of the Royal Academy / from the author / January 1856'; and, in pencil by a different hand, 'by Richard J Lane, AERA'. The inscription is in the hand of Richard J Lane, verified against other examples of his handwriting in the RA Archive. See: RAA/SEC/1/94.
Copy 3: The title-page inscribed in ink: 'Lewis Vulliamy Esqre / &c &c &c / from the Author / Decr 1855'
Copy 1: inscribed in pencil on the back free endpaper: `Rec’d from the Council 8 Feby 1856 HWP’ (i.e. Henry William Pickersgill RA (1782 - 1875), the Academy’s librarian from 1856-64).
The leaf comprising pages 39 & 40 in copies 1 and 2 differs from that in copy 3. A new version of this leaf has been tipped into copies 1 & 2 on which the lines of verse relating to the works of Henry William Pickersgill RA, John Prescott Knight RA and John Hollins ARA differ from those in copy 3. Further, next to the verses relating to Pickersgill in copies 1 & 2 is written in black ink: `omitted Sir J.E. Tennent H.W.P.’ (i.e. Henry William Pickersgill). And in the same hand `a mistake’ next to the line `Pearl Of Florence’ which has been crossed-out.
