The 'Auteurs Des Notices' lists Augustin Cartault, Maxime Collignon, Ernest Desjardins, Eugène Guillaume, Bernard Haussoullier, Jules Martha, Gaston Maspero, Olivier Rayet, Salomon Reinach.

All plates are signed as 'heliog. Dujardin', printed by Eudes, Paris. All but one carry the publisher's imprint of A. Quantin.

A study of art and photography was A. Scharf, Art and photography (1968).

The work was published serially. The Table Méthodique Des Planches begins with the note, 'Avis. - Les Monuments de l'Art antique ont été publié en six livraisons, de novembre 1881 à novembre 1883 ...'.

The plates are heliogravures (photogravures) of ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman statues, of bronze, stone and terracotta, most of them in public collections.

Parts 1-3 (forming vol. I) were purchased for the Royal Academy's Library in 1882 (see RA Annual Report for 1882, p. 45).

19th-century half green morocco, green cloth-covered boards; spines lettered 'Monuments De L'Art Antique Rayet - I. (II.)', 'R.A.' and '1884'.
