Summary Note

Some copies have the paper cover bound in; of which the title reads, 'Monumentos Arquitectónicos De España. Publicados de Rl. Orden y por disposicion del Ministerio de Fomento. Cuaderno No.'

Titles are in Spanish; but the text is in Spanish and French in parallel.

The text describes the Puerta Vieja de Bisagra in Toledo, built as the main passage for commercial traffic during the Arab rule of the city (721-1085). Its ground-plan and the shape of its arch have been taken to indicate 10th-century construction. Its design was possibly influenced by that of structures at Córdoba.

The plate shows a view, elevation, plans and sections of the gate. In-text illustrations consist of a title-page vignette and decorated initial.

The initial is printed in color.
