Summary Note
The publication was accompanied by an atlas of illustrations, entitled Antichi monumenti per servire all'opera intitolata L'Italia avanti il dominio dei Romani. New editions of the text and atlas were published in 1832 and 1833 respectively, under the revised titles of Storia degli antichi popoli italiani and Monumenti per servire alla Storia degli antichi popoli italiani.
Provenance
10 November 1815: 'Mr. Thomson moved that a Work called Antichi Monumenti &c. be purchased for the use of the Library.' Seconded by Mr. Theed. (RA Council Minutes V, 228).
At some point after 1841, the atlas of plates belonging to this copy of the 1810 edition of Micali's text went missing and was replaced (possibly in March 1846) by a copy of the atlas from the 1821 edition.
18 March 1846: RA Council approves the purchase of '2 vols of Monumenti inediti' for 3 guineas (RA Council Minutes, X, 99).This may refer to the above-mentioned 1821 edition of Micali's Antichi monumenti atlas (q.v.), paired perhaps with the text volume of Micali's Storia degli antichi popoli italiani 1844 (see 06/2391), the atlas of which Eastlake had donated separately to the RA Library on 18 October 1844 (06/5809).
Binding Note
19th-century half calf, brown cloth-covered boards; gilt-decorated spines, spines lettered 'Micali. L'Italia Avanti I Romani Tomo 1. (-4.)', 'R.A.' and '1810'.
