Summary Note
This work had first been published in Verona from 1823 onwards; second and third editions were published in Venice in 1831 and 1832. Zanotto's revision had first been published ca. 1850 in Genoa.
The numbered plates fall into three groups - Civil (pl. 1-63), showing palaces, gateways, a fountain and a lazzaretto; Ecclesiastic (pl. 64-105), showing churches, a presbytery, a campanile, a cupola, tombs, and an oratory; Military (pl.106-150), showing gateways, a castello, fortifications, a cisterna and plans of forts. Most of these structures were built in Verona or elsewher in the Veneto or northern Italy; but the last plate is a plan of the Venetians' fortress at Candia (Heracleum) in Crete. The text is preceded by two unnumbered plates - a portrait of Sanmicheli and a frontispiece showing his tomb.
