Scipione Maffei nell'Europa del Settecento, ed. P. Romagnani [convention, Verona, 1996] (1998).
520 2 # $a Scipione Maffei's Verona Illustrata had first been published in 1731-2. As well as being the author of the tragedy Merope and founder of the Giornale de' letterati d'Italia, Maffei was an accomplished historian, and founded a Lapidary Museum in Verona.

In the present edition for the use of visitors the first volume contains a biography of Maffei, a history of Verona and a description of the ancient Roman amphitheatre, which is illustrated in six plates. The second volume describes and illustrates some notable sights of the city and its fortifications, and concludes with a brief survey of its literary history.

Some plates are copied from the 1732 edition, but others are new, e.g. those of the Museo and the Dogana.
