Summary Note
The plates show paintings by Cimabue, Giotto (2), Orcagna (2), Angelico (7), Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, Gozzoli (2), Matteo da Siena, Perugino, Ghirlandaio, Leonardo, Filippino Lippi (2), Bartolommeo Della Porta (3), Sodoma, Michelangelo, Tiziano, Raffaello (8) and Andrea del Sarto (3). Almost all are on Biblical or other Christian themes.
The images are reproduced as line engravings, with more attention given to outline than to the tones and textures of painting. Plates [45] and [46], reproducing Raphael's 'Abramo che si prostra agli Angioli' and 'Giacobbe Che Ritorna in Chanaan', are fine examples of the technique.
