Part 1 contains dedication from the publisher to "Gerardo ab Hoogeveen," "Adriano à Staveren", "Ioanni à Groenendiick", "Ioanni vander Marsche", "Mauringo vander Aa", councillors of the city of Leiden, and to "Ioanni Wevelichovio", syndic of the city of Leiden. Part 2 contains dedication from Joannes de Laet to Elizabeth, Princess Palatine (1618-1680).

Part 1: title-page leaf, followed by three-page dedication from Joannes Maire and three-page commendatory verse from Caspar Barlæus to the editor, Adrianus Tollius; 22-page index at end of part 1. Both parts contains numerous woodcut diagrams within the text, including illustrations of machines, instruments, gems, stones and crystals. Two folding leaves contain letterpress tables. First table is entitled "Divisio lapidum et gemmarum" and is to be bound facing p. 15 in part 1; second table has no title and is to be bound facing p. 22 in part 1.
Greek text of Theophrastus' History of stones is interspersed with Latin translation and commentary.
