$a Malvasia's Felsina Pittrice was published to adjust what he regarded as the Florentine focus of Vasari's lives. It traced the course of painting at Bologna from the early Renaissance through the Carracci to the author's contemporaries, Guido Reni and Domenichino. Full of detail and anecdote it remains a valuable source of information about Bolognese artists. Most illustrations are full-page portraits of artists; but also include the genealogical tree of the Carracci, several devices of the printer and vignettes. |
