Summary Note
This is a reissue of the plates published in 1714 by Le Hay and Duchange in Paris under the title, Recueil De Cent Estampes representant differentes Nations Du Levant tirées sur les Tableaux peints d'aprés Nature en 1707. et 1708. par les Ordres De M. De Ferriol Ambassadeur Du Roi A La Porte. Et gravées en 1712. et 1713. par les soins de Mr. Le Hay.
The plates show Turks and other peoples of the Ottoman empire - Greeks, Albanians, Hungarians, Vlachs, Armenians, Crimeans, Bulgarians, Persians, Indians, Arabs and north Africans - and even a few visiting French men and women. The hundredth plate shows a Turkish wedding; the two unnumbered plates show Dervishes whirling and a Turkish burial.
