The outline drawings are signed as drawn by Pâris, engraved by Adam et Lemaitre, and printed by N. Rémond. The lithographs are signed as drawn by Pâris or Sabatier, lithographed by Sabatier, Mazin or Lehnert, and printed by Lemercier, Benard et Cie. or by Formentin et Cie.
Each plate carries the imprint of the publisher, Arthus-Bertrand.
The name of the text printer is repeated in the colophon in the first volume: 'Imprimerie De Madame Veuve Bouchard-Huzard, Rue De L'Éperon, 7.'
Summary Note
The second part has its own title page, identical with that of the first part except for the addition of the word 'Atlas' after the words 'Ministre de la Marine'.
About half the plates are outline drawings showing the plans and construction of ships; the rest are lithographs showing views of the ships in use at sea.
Provenance
The verso of the front free-endpaper is inscribed 'S.A.H.', i.e. S.A. Hart, librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81. Purchased for RA Library in 1881 (see RA Annual Report for 1881, p. 46).
