Summary Note
The Parte Prima and Parte Seconda of this work were published in parallel. The publication-dates of the volumes of Parte Prima are given on their title-pages as 1819 (v.1, 2), 1820 (v.3-6), 1821 (v.7, 8), 1822 (v. 9-12), 1823 (v. 13-17), 1824 (v. 18, 19). Those of Parte Seconda are given as 1817 (v.1), 1819 (v.2), 1820 (v.3-5), 1821 (v.6-8), 1822 (v.9).
Parte Prima consists of an alphabetic encyclopedia of artists and connoisseurs, briefly described in a complex coding-system. Artists are ranked from 'bravissimo' to 'molto mediocre'. Parte Seconda describes visual representations of the Old and New Testaments.
This is the second edition of Zani's Enciclopedia. The first edition (8 vols.) had appeared in 1794.
