Summary Note
No publication-date or any imprint is given on the title page, but the preface, 'Hadr. Damman Gandavus, Iaspar Rutus ... Lectori', ends, 'Colon. CIƆ.IƆ.LXXVII. Idib. Iulij.' The dedication carries the date of 1576; plate 1 carries the date of 1575. In the same year a variant issue appeared under the same title - but in which the title word 'Divesarum' is corrected to 'Diversarum' and a plate showing weapons is found instead of the dedication-plate, among other differences (see Lipperheide).
The title-plate and engraved dedication carry elaborate borders. The plates are captioned in Latin and German and show armed horsemen of Europe, the Ottoman Empire, Iran, Egypt, north Africa and India. A few riders are shown mounted on camels or elephants. In the Academy's copy the plates have been colored by hand.
