$a The Doria Pamphili collection (the two families were united in 1763) includes paintings by Tintoretto, Titian, Raphael, Correggio, Caravaggio, Guercino, Lanfranco, Claude Lorrain, Parmigianino, Dughet and Breughel the elder, and Bernini's bust of Pope Innocent X (Pamphili). Its most celebrated work is Velazquez's portrait of Innocent X, which Tonci describes as producing an effect 'so strong while at the same time so harmonious, that it is a great pity for all the pictures which are displayed round it'. Sir Joshua Reynolds, also, regarded this work as 'the finest picture in Rome'.
