Physical Description

12 p., 2 plates (folded): illus.; 210 mm.

General Note

The verso of the title-page contains an advertisement which gives information on the source of the images for the panorama (painted by Barker and Burford) and contributor to the text of the pamphlet. The panorama views were based on those by Simone Pomardi who drew views throughout Greece for Edward Dodwell. [Charles] Robert Cockerell, 'recently returned from Greece', provided 'much useful information, and drawings of several of the principal figures, in their correct costume.'

Both folded plates entitled: Explanation of the View of Athens, exhibiting in the Panorama, Strand. Both were printed by R. Ackermann's Lithographic Press. One of the plates covers the view to east and south; the other, the view to west and north.

Owner's signature in ink on upper-right of brown paper cover of the pamphlet, 'Rich. Westmacott'. [This is the signature of Sir Richard Westmacott, not his son from whose library this item was donated.]
