500 # # $a This wooden model of the Colosseum (or Flavian Amphitheatre) in Rome is the result of Carlo Lucangeli's research and surveys of the building to create a model of the building as built - not the ruined state as was existing at the time. He produced the first thorough survey of the building, uncovering many previously unknown parts. He had been working on it since 1790 and it was unfinished when he died in 1812. His son-in-law Paolo Dalbono completed the work in 1815. The model was exhibited in London for four years from 1815. It is now restored and exhibited in the Colosseum Museum in Rome.
