$a This book was the first published research the Romanesque monuments of south Italy; which Schulz had explored between 1832 and 1842, having drawings made by Hallmann and Cavallari. He drafted an introduction to his book as early as 1847, but the work was not completed until after his death. The plates show plans, elevations, architectural details, bas-reliefs, church furnishings and mural paintings in Romanesque churches in Apulia (Bari, Trani, Troja and other places) and Campania (Naples and elsewhere). The last twelve plates show frescoes attributed to Giotto at Santa Chiara, Naples. |
