General Note
This work originally appeared in monthly parts. It consists of 18 sets of plates illustrating 19 watercolours by the named artists (the plates after Wheatley and Young are printed together on one sheet). Each set is in 4 states (in this volume in the order hand-coloured aquatint, aquatint with background tint, aquatint, etched outline) and accompanied by a leaf of descriptive letterpress, with additional hand-colouring in text giving instructions for colouring and shading. The Introduction, dated March 1, 1813, is signed by Hassell & Co. The etched outline plates are without imprint; the others have imprint: London, Pub. July 1, 1818, by T. McLean. The printer, noted at the foot of the title-page, was W. Wilson, Printer, 4 Greville-Street, Hatton-Garden, London.
