Responsibility Note

Most carry the imprint of the lithographic printers Cosnier et Lachèse, Angers.
The printers are named on the half-title versos of Vols. I, II: 'Paris, Au Comptoir Des Imprimeurs-Unis, Quai Malaquais, No 15. Angers, Chez Cosnier Et Lachèse, Pigne-Chateau, Et Chez Tous Les Libraires De L'Anjou, De La Lorraine Et De La Provence.'
Summary Note
The publication-dates are given on the title pages as 1845, 1844, 1846 and 1846. In the Royal Academy's set, the wrappers of Tomes I and III are bound in; which carry the dates of 1844 and 1846 respectively.
The plates are outline drawings reproducing illuminations of manuscript books - most of which are here attributed to René himself.
Provenance
A preliminary leaf in each of the two volumes is inscribed in pencil, 'S.A.H.', i.e. S.A. Hart, librarian of the Royal Academy 1864-81. Purchased for RA Library in 1879 (see RA Annual Report for 1879, p. 47).
Copy Note
In the first volume is bound in an 8-page 'Notice Sur Le Roi René' (1869); in the second is loosely inserted a [4]-page 'Antiphonaire De Saint Grégoire. Facsimile ... Par Le R.P. L. Lambillotte ... Prospectus' (1851).
The upper cover of the wrapper of Tome I is inscribed in ink and pencil. There are occasional annotations elsewhere.
