This third edition incorporates the Analytical Index which had first been published separately in 1836. Although Thomas Hope is chiefly associated with the Greek Revival movement, this essay exemplifies the growing interest in Romanesque architecture - or 'Rundbogenstil' as it was called in Germany. Most plates show Romanesque architecture of Italy and Germany. They conclude by showing examples of Gothic. A French translation was published in 1839; an Italian one, in 1840. |
