(Most were designed by the sculptor, John Bacon, R.A., who worked for the firm from ca. 1771 to his death in 1799.) Coade stone was very widely used, and examples may be seen not only in London and Britain (e.g. Buckingham Palace, Royal Naval Hospital, Greenwich) but also in Washington DC (Octagon), Rio de Janeiro (Zoo) and elsewhere. |
