Content Description

They are all pleased that she has been kindly received in Devonshire. Provides his opinions on how she should carry herself within this new family circle, particularly with reference to the behaviour of older people. He enjoyed her description of Devonshire, though he prefers the "plains of Hounslow" to the scaling of picturesque steeps.

He is happy for Miss Harward, though cautious of this "epidemic of love". His servants are good and he wishes to keep them, though "Coachy looks very sweet on Cooky".

He already looks to her return to London. Does his best to sound positive about their prospects, that he continues to hear good things of the character of Harward. Even so, they cannot be happy unless they learn to live like lovers in a Romance, "without a house, without money, without food".
