Content Description
Visiting Algiers would not be lost time, the country is wild and fine. He would like to go to Rome, but would feel it a duty to study in galleries, and he feels he cannot do this at present. He justifies a trip abroad through reference to the old masters, that the dirty skies of London and the denizens of Regent Street will not inspire in him the same effect as the light and the colours of the mediterranean. He wants to start at the foundation, and master the figure, and this must be at Rome.
