Ms report by Henry Fuseli entitled "Exhbition of the Royal Academy." Fuseli states that the modest number of history paintings included shows that superior taste is tolerated, rather than approved by the public. He notes the absence of larger works by the President [
West], and mentions works by himself,
Opie,
Westall,
Northcote,
Lawrence,
Hoppner and
Turner. Fuseli notes a general sciophobia, and a conspiracy of changing the appearance of flesh to that of metal or marble.
