c. 1865
Mary C. Lloyd mentions the death of her brother in 1865 [GI/1/224.]
Draft letter in which Gibson thanks his correspondent for the intended gift of a writing case. He declares himself to be very happy in life, because his wants are few, he cheats no one, always tells the truth, and never feels the sting of envy. The study of the beautiful elevates his soul "up to the ether of all perfection." The hot weather made Gibson and
Williams think of moving at the end of the month, either to England or the Tyrol. He mentions the death of
Miss Lloyd's brother.
Miss Hosmer had sold a work in marble depicting a youthful faun asleep, at the Irish exhibition for £1,000. She had set a price of £800 without Gibson's knowledge. He would have said £600.
The item also bears a draft letter from Gibson to Mrs Wilson relating to the cast of 'Grazia'.
