[John Gibson, to E. H. Toelken]
Draft letter acknowledging his election as a member of the Royal Academy of Berlin, following receipt of a letter to him dated 18 May 1855. The item also bears a draft letter from Gibson, written the same day, to Cav. Rouch, acknowledging his proposal as a member of the Royal Academy of Prussia. Gibson mentions his sense of honour at being proposed by
Thorvaldsen at the Academy of St Luke at Rome, and Rouch at the Royal Academy of Prussia: the two greatest sculptors of the age.
