Jan Spaander, Utrechtscheweg 145, Amersfoort, Holland, to Clausen
He is the son of
Leendert Spaander (who is still in great health at 82) and would like to write a novel about the Volendam artists colony, 1875-1914. The first artist to stay was Jean A. Moeselagen from Düsseldorf.
Mr. Monet and his wife stayed between 1871 and 1875, he asks if Clausen ever met them. A series of questions follow, he would like as many reminiscences as possible.
He asks about Clausens picture,
High Mass at a Fishing Village on the Zuyder Zee, whether it was painted in Volendam. He asks for further inforamtion about Clausen's stay as he is writing an historical novel on the subject.
